COMMON MYTHS ABOUT IMPLANT DENTISTRY
Myth 1 # Implants corrode inside the Jaw, being a metal !
Implant is a metal. It is made of either pure Titanium or an alloy of Titanium. By nature of the metal, Titanium is one of the most BIOCOMPATIBLE material that can be placed inside the Jaw Bone. As it is the most Biocompatible metal, our body recognizes Titanium as its own and forms new bone around it. A healthy well placed Implant does not corrode inside the Jaw bone.
Myth 2 # My body can reject the Dental Implant placed inside the jaw bone !
Implants can fail. Like our natural teeth, Implants can also shake and fall – but not due to rejection by the body. It can be because of poor quality bone surrounding the Implant, or due to presence of existing medical condition of the patient. There are very few documented cases of rejection of Implants by one’s body . It’s a very rare phenomenon to happen.
Myth 3 # Implants will get captured in the Airport Security Scanner and we will be pulled out by the security for wearing a metal device!!
It is perfectly safe to have metal implants inside the jaw bone and we will not be pulled out by the Airport Security for this reason.
